Paul GreenhalghPaul Greenhalgh, recently appointed Corcoran's new Director/ President Designate, will a lecture/preview on Modernism: Designing a New World, 1914-1939, an exhibit opening at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in March 2007.

The exhibit originated at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. They describe the exhibit as "the first to explore Modernism in the designed world from a truly international perspective and in terms of all the arts. ... The exhibition concentrates on the years 1914-39. Europe and, to a lesser extent, America are the focus but the reach of Modernism is demonstrated by selected exhibits or projects from different parts of the world."

The Victoria and Albert Museum recommends two books about Modernism in conjunction with their exhibit:

The Charles Sumner School is a beautifully restored historic building located at 1201 17th St., N.W., next to the National Geographic Explorers Hall.

  • Parking: Some on-street parking is available after 6:30 pm; there are also several public garages in the area.
