Historic Landmark Designation Sought for Sedgwick Gardens

March 7, 2015
This fall the Art Deco Society and the Cleveland Park Historical Society submitted a landmark designation for Sedgwick Gardens.

Built in 1932 and designed by noted architect Mirhan Misrobian, Sedgwick Gardens is masterpiece combining Byzantine ornamentation and Art Deco detailing.  The porte-corchere entrance is already a Connecticut Avenue landmark.  ADSW, along with the Cleveland Park Historical Society, have submitted a landmark designation for the apartment building located at 3626 Connecticut Avenue, N.W.  At the time it was built, Sedgwick Gardens joined many other elegant apartment residences that lined Connecticut Avenue, a desirable address for those seeking stylish apartment living in 1930s Washington.

The lobby of Sedgwick Gardens is especially distinctive and the landmark designation seeks to preserve it along with other interior spaces.  Please consider making a donation to ADSW to help offset the cost of the nomination application and to help preserve one of Washington's grand dame's of Art Deco.
