Please join us to see some of the Art Deco buildings and other attractions along 16th Street in Northwest Washington!
Highlights include:
- A look at Meridian Hill Park, one of our truly great public parks with some of the best views of Washington.
- An opportunity to see the fine interiors of the 1939 Scottish Rite Center by architects Porter and Lockie with exceptional decorative concrete murals by John Joseph Earley.
- Visits to a couple of thoughtfully restored Art Deco lobbies in apartment buildings by developer Morris Cafritz.
- A visit to the 1941 Dorchester House lobby-truly over-the-top and wonderful!
- We'll point out many other interesting buildings along the way, not all of them Art Deco, but fabulous nonetheless.
Additional Notes:
This is a walking tour. Expect to be on your feet for some time, walking in excess of a mile and encountering stairs during our time together. We anticipate the walking tour and lunch break to take about 4 hours.
We will have a 1 hour break halfway through the tour for a sit down lunch at Haydee's, a moderately priced casual Mexican restaurant on Mount Pleasant Street.
Details of the exact meeting location will be sent to registrants the week of the tour.
