Mae Reeves and her husband Joel pose with her hats
at Mae's Millinery in Philadelphia, circa 1953.

ADSW members are in for a real treat as Donna Limerick leads a special tour of Mae's Millenery, a partial recreation of her mother's Philadelphia hat shop. In 1942, at a time when few women were becoming entrepreneurs, Mae Reeves opened what would become a Philadelphia institution with a $500 bank loan. Mae's Millinery helped dress some of the most famous African-American women in the country, including iconic singers Marian Anderson, Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne.

Registration coming in September. Because space is severely limited, this event will be members only.

Donna Limerick is a long time friend and member of ADSW. In addition to organizing a fashion show at the Sumner School featuring Mae Reeves' hats, she has emceed numerous ADSW fashion shows.
